The government has announced the introduction of a new medical assessment for the DLA for working-age adults. We are concerned the new assessments might mean some people with a learning disability will not get DLA anymore.
That's why we need you to take our online survey.
To help us with our campaigning work, we want to find out how people with a learning disability spend their DLA. In particular, we are interested in people who get the care component of DLA.
We want to show the government how important DLA is for people with a learning disability, so we may use the examples you give us. However, we will not use your name without your permission.
The questions in the survey are about how you use your DLA in relation to your learning disability. This is because DLA is an ‘extra costs' benefit. It is paid to disabled people in recognition of the extra costs they face due to the effect their disability has on their ability to get around or look after themselves.
The Disability Benefits Consortium (DBC) is also running a survey to help the government understand the impact changes to benefits like Incapacity Benefit, Disability Living Allowance and Local Housing Allowance will have on disabled people. Take the online survey here.
