My view on the cuts
Posted: 2nd Dec 2010
Local authorities are under great pressure to save money which means that many will cut services. I think when the local authority decides on what areas they are going to cut, they should think about how cuts to services will affect the lives of people with any disability.
It is important that people like myself, who live in the area, are listened to because social care and housing is a big part of our daily life. If we are not involved in the consultation we are not able to have a say what we think should be cut and what services should be saved.
Councils should make sure all people are involved and listen to what they have to say. They should get more people involved by making consultation information in easy read, so all people know what the consultation is all about. Some councils are already doing this but sadly not all.
We must make sure Councils think about people with a learning disability by taking part in local consultations. To find out how to take part visit your local council website or call them for more information.
Please do not miss this chance to have your voice heard!
