Queen's speech - Mencap response
Wednesday 18 November 2009
Mencap welcomes many of the Bills announced in the Queen's Speech but seeks reassurances as to the impact they will have on people with a learning disability and their families.
Esther Foreman, campaigns and policy manager, at Mencap, said:
"Within the Personal Care at Home Bill, Mencap is extremely concerned that money will be diverted from essential support services at a local level for people with a learning disability. Mencap wants more commitment from the Government to invest in social care for people with a learning disability.
"The Crime and Security Bill is an excellent opportunity to tackle disability hate crime and anti-social behaviour. This will reassure victims of disability hate crime that their situations are being taken seriously."
