Adult Social Care Workforce Strategy - Mencap responds

Mencap responds to the Adult Social Care Workforce Strategy announced today (23 April 2009)

David Congdon, head of campaigns and policy for learning disability charity, Mencap, said: 

"Mencap fully supports efforts to recruit skilled staff into a currently over-stretched social care workforce.

"It is vital that the government do not go down the route of quantity over quality, but seek to improve the skills and expertise of the entire social care work force, in particular their knowledge about learning disability.

"Mencap believes the workforce strategy should complement other social care strategies and plans - for example the reform of social care and the carers strategy."
