Learning disability photos displayed at Tower Bridge

Wednesday 17 December 2008

A free public exhibition of photos featuring people with a learning disability has gone on display at More London.

The exhibition – called This is me – is based on Mencap's Snap! photo competition. It  offers a unique insight into the feelings and experiences of people with a learning disability through photos and stories.

The exhibition launched on Wednesday 17 December at More London next to Tower Bridge. It will remain there until Thursday 8 January when it moves to Birmingham, Manchester and Brighton.

People with a learning disability are all individuals with their own personalities, likes and dislikes, goals and ambitions. But too often, people with a learning disability are ignored and are among the most excluded people in our society.

Every picture in This is me has been taken by or features someone with a learning disability. Each one is accompanied by the story behind the picture, or the story of its subject or photographer.

You can visit the exhibition at:

  • More London – near Tower Bridge, SE1 1DB, between 17 December 2008 and 8 January 2009.

  • Birmingham – in Chamberlain Square between 11 January and 28 February 2009.

  • Manchester – in Piccadilly Gardens between 1 March and 30 April 2009.

  • Brighton – in the city centre, details and dates to follow shortly.
