Arctic Double Adventure
Thursday 14 August 2008
Get started on the '50 things to do before you die' list.
Would you like the chance to take part in a spectacular Husky Sled challenge in March 2009? Husky sledding and seeing the ‘Aurora Borealis' are two items on the BBC's list of ‘50 things to do before you die' so Mencap's Husky Sled Challenge offers a rare opportunity to potentially strike these two items off the list!
There are only a few places left on the challenge which is organised by Mencap, Northern Ireland's leading learning disability charity. You could be part of the 12-strong team that will be challenged to sled over 200 kilometres across the arctic wilds of Norway, so thrill-seekers are being urged to apply now.
Each intrepid challenger will take charge of their own team of spirited huskies and will be responsible for feeding, harnessing and looking after these magnificent animals whilst travelling across snow-covered mountains, through spectacular forests and over frozen lakes. Temperatures can potentially fall as low as -30C, making this the ultimate sub-zero adventure.
Mencap's Events Manager Claire Scarborough said: "This is a tough yet fascinating physical and mental journey and you are guaranteed to have the adventure of a lifetime. Participants will receive expert guidance on handling the huskies and navigating through some of the world's most exceptional terrain in the extreme cold.
The scenery is unrivalled and participants might also catch sight of the Northern Lights in the evening and have the chance to visit Norway's only ice hotel. By signing up to Mencap's Husky Sled Challenge you will also be making a commitment to raising money for vital projects and services for people with a learning disability and their families and carers in Northern Ireland."
