Jo Whiley joins forces with Mencap for series of acoustic gigs

Tuesday 02 October 2007

Radio and TV presenter, Jo Whiley, is teaming up with learning disability charity Mencap for the second year of the Little Noise Sessions, a series of intimate, acoustic gigs.

The gigs will take place from Wednesday 21 November to Wednesday 28 November 2007, at Islington's Union Chapel. The Chapel is known for its ambience and acoustics and has an intimate capacity of 600.

The line up is as follows with more names and dates to be announced in the coming weeks *.

Wednesday 21 November - Athlete, The Hoosiers, plus special guests

Thursday 22 November - Will Young plus special guests

Friday 23 November - Biffy Clyro, We Are Scientists, Young Knives

Saturday 24 November - The Pigeon Detectives plus special guests

Sunday 25 November - Snow Patrol plus special guests

Tuesday 27 November - The Enemy, plus special guests

Wednesday 28 November - Keane, Rilo Kiley, Scouting for Girls

Those wanting tickets must register online at http://www.mencapmusic.org.uk/

Ticket registration opens at 12.00 Tuesday 2 October and closes at 12.00 Friday 19 October.  Those who have registered can then buy tickets online on a first-come-first-served basis from 9.00 Monday 22 October.  Tickets are £35 each.

Jo Whiley, who is an ambassador for the charity, said: "Mencap's Little Noise Sessions are a great opportunity to see big name bands play an acoustic gig in an intimate setting, whilst raising money for a really worthwhile cause."

Will Young, also a Mencap ambassador, said:  "I have always wanted to perform at the Union Chapel as it's such a unique venue, although it's slightly nerve-racking playing an acoustic gig!  It's great that the money raised will go to such a good cause."

The gigs will raise money for Mencap's Arts Awards scheme**, which enables children and young people with a learning disability to take part in local arts projects.
