Hi there I have a 20 year old sister who has Learning Difficulties, She Lives with My Mum at the moment she has a boyfriend who also has Learing Difficulties, He works in a supermarket bringing in a low wage and my sister in currently on Job seekers My Mum asks both of them for atleast £100 a months each from them as rent, My Mum is not the best of roll models we had quite a rubbish childhood, Made to clean the house, go to the shops multipal times a day, not taught to keep clean anyway Im sure you get the drift...well none of this has changed over the years so my sister is living in these conditions, yet theres no way I can think of her getting her own home with her boyfriend, she would not be able to keep the house in decent condition, let alone look after herself properly, I have children of my own so its hard for me to help physically, Is there help for her out there? maybe people who could guide her into looking after a home let alone get one, and to look after herself, My parents are bullies and think that just because she is 20 years old she doesnt need help with life (they cant be bothered, never have) I really feel awful because of this, I just want to help her.
Does your sister get any special consideration from the Job Centre for her disability? if she is registered with social services then maybe there could be support for her to move into supported independent living. a social worker may be able to advise.
