Mencap's Big Cuts event

Rachel181

Mencap is holding a series of free roadshow events across the country to tell people about the cuts to services happening in their area and to look at ways we can work together to fight them.

The events will take place from January to March 2011.

Professor Luke Clements, a leading lawyer and expert in community care law, will be speaking about accessing support and what your rights are.

Our campaigns team will also be speaking at each event and will be on hand to provide advice and information on issues specific to each area.

Hi Sioned, and welcome to the Mencap families forums!

Unfortunately there are no Big Cuts events planned for Wales at the moment. However, you can read advice from Professor Luke Clements, and access local campaigning materials, at the link in my post above...

Hope that helps!

Thanks Tanya for this lovely aritcle. My partner and I were just two of the volunteers who travelled each weekend and Aust Day to help out in the field and the in the donation centre in Gatton. People asked me if we had gone to see the Prince, we didn't we believe that visit was for the people of Grantham and the unsung heroes like Jenny Bruce, Jennifer & Charles who were there everyday, from early in the morning til late evening, sorting stuff, helping people locate the items they needed to replace those lost, hugging those who needed some TLC and making sure the volunteers were fed and watered regularly. Jenny became a part of our everyday suburban lives when we would receive ph calls telling us what was needed in Grantham and seeking our assistance to locate and get those things to them. Had she not kept us in the loop, those specific items wouldn't have made it to those in need of them in such a timely manner. When i saw the 7PM Report this week, I was quite annoyed to see that those who appeared as the Heroes of the flood recovery weren't actually those getting their hands dirty, in all the days we spent at the Gatton donation centre I only ever saw one of them and he spent his time looking important and trying to rearrange systems which were working fine ..Ok had my vent!
