IQ results alarming

Tracyd

hi,

We have just had an Ed Psyc report done for our 14 year old daughter and it turns out she has an IQt of 68.

We are astonished, angr y, frustrated, dissappointed that her school have let  us down .... or that is how we feel right now.

We have been telling them for the last 18months that somthing is not right. They have just been fobbing us off with excuses.

Her behaviour is so bad she is close to being expelled.

The system as let us down big timeand we are desperate for some help/support in where to go now.

Hi Tracyd & welcome to the forum. I can't begin to understand how you must feel over what has happened. You & your daughter obviously have a lot of catching up to do. I presume that your Daughter has not been "statemented" so you will need to speak to your Local Education Authority about an assessment for her.

A good place to start would be to contact your local "Parent Partnership". They are a national organisation who have links with every Local Authority & although funded by them operate independently at arms length to advise & support Parents on Special Educational Needs problems. You can find out more about them & how to contact them locally at www.parentpartnership.org.uk If you feel it would be more help to talk through these suggestions & the many other issues that will have arisen from your news you might like to call the National Learning Disability Helpline on 0808 808 1111 or email them on help@mencap.org.uk

I wish you well with your task & hope that with good support & information it will not be such an uphill battle to get the appropriate education & further services that your daughter needs.

Thankyou, I have spoke to The Parent Partnership people and they have been FANTASTIC and are giving us lots of help.

Where do we turn to for help for the "family" for her sisters and me and her dad to try and understand how we move forward.

a couple of weeks ago before  all this came out our family was about to split up over all the stress....

Hi tracy,

I am sorry to hear you have been going through a hard time of it.

I have also had trouble getting my daughter some help, i was told yesterday my daughter's IQ is only 72 and that she has severe learning disabilitys!

I have been though it with my daughters school about getting my daughter help, now she has been diagnosed the child phsycologists are going to push for her to get statemented, you must try as they will never get the proper help otherwise!

I have felt all the emotions you feel at the moment and its very hard for it not to get anyone down but you must keep strong and fight them to give your daughter the help she deserves!  You are not alone and keep me posted on how you get on, take care xxx
