Tina O’Brien and Darren Langford join The Co-operative Walk With Me event

Over 100 people walked a mile for Mencap on Sunday 31 July in Manchester’s Heaton Park.
The event formed part of The Co-operative’s Charity of the Year fundraising for Mencap and its sister charity ENABLE Scotland.
They were joined by The Co-operative staff, along with TV stars Tina O’Brien, best known for her role in Coronation Street, and Darren Langford, best known for his role in Hollyoaks.
Darren Langford commented: “Having played a character with a learning disability, I know how important it is that young people with a learning disability get the right support and encouragement. It was great that lots of people came down and supported the event.”
Many participants made the event a personal challenge – some walked backwards and others completed the mile on space hoppers.
Tina O’Brien said, “I had a really good time with everyone at Walk With Me – it was a great opportunity to take on a fun challenge and raise money for Mencap at the same time!”
Money raised through the Charity of the Year partnership will fund Inspire Me, a ground-breaking programme for young people with a learning disability.
