Statement on New York marathon

Mencap has been following developments on the East Coast of the USA closely, and is very concerned for all those affected by the storm.

We share the disappointment of the 10 people who were due to run in the now cancelled New York Marathon to raise vital funds for Mencap’s work in Northern Ireland. We are hoping that they will take up an offer of a place to run for us in the London Marathon in April.

Mencap is very grateful to all of them for their commitment to a gruelling training regime, and for all the fundraising they and their family and friends have done for us.
