Mencap launches 5km fun runs across England and Wales

Hundreds of people will don a Santa suit in aid of Mencap this autumn.

Four Mencap Santa Dashes will take place across England and Wales in November.

Each 5km event offers adults and children the chance to dress up in a beard and Santa suit and raise money for Mencap.

Marie Brown, senior regional fundraising manager for Mencap, said: “It’s a 5km run, or ­if, like me, you can't run a bath without getting out of breath, you might like to walk it in under two hours. It’s a great way to spend a chilly Sunday morning. It's the most fun I’ll be having in my Santa suit this year.”

The events will take place in:

Nottingham, 20 November

Cardiff, 20 November

Manchester, 27 November

Sheffield, 4 December

The money raised from the events will support Mencap and Inspire Me, a new project to give opportunities to young people with a learning disability.
