Remember a Charity
Monday 13 September 2010
Mencap is part of a campaign to encourage people to remember a charity in their will

More than 70% of people in the UK actively support charities during their lifetime, but only 7% go on to remember a charity in their will.
Mencap is part of the Remember A Charity (RAC) campaign. RAC is a group of over 140 charities, which aims to encourage people to remember their favourite charity in their will. This year, Remember A Charity awareness week took place from 13 to 19 September.
Without gifts in wills, many charities in the UK would struggle to survive, and Mencap is no different. More than half of voluntary donations to Mencap come from people who left a gift in their will. Without these gifts, Mencap couldn't afford to run the Learning Disability Helpline, which supports thousands of people with a learning disability, their families and their carers.
Clair Lucy, Mencap's legacy manager, said: "Once family and friends have been provided for, a gift in your will is a wonderful way to continue supporting a charity close to your heart long into the future. Every gift we receive, no matter how large or small, makes a big difference. You may well have already made your will and thought about Mencap. If you have, we'd love it if you could let us know so we can say thank you."
