Mencap Direct is a new way to find care and support services in your area
Mencap Direct, a new way to find out about Mencap's personal support services in England, launches today (14 July).
People with a learning disability and those who support them can now call 0300 333 1111 to find and buy Mencap services in their area. The service is supported by a website, with information about employment, education, housing and support services.
Mencap Direct has been designed to make it quicker and easier for people to find out about Mencap's services. Anyone who calls the number will first speak to a member of a national customer support team. The team will give them information about services in their area, and then put them through to a customer support co-ordinator. The customer support co-ordinator will give them more detailed information and stay in contact with the caller to find a Mencap service that is right for them.
Jan Tregelles, Mencap's director of personal support, commented:
"Individual budgets are empowering people with a learning disability across the country to live more independent lives. For some people managing a budget and finding services can be daunting. Mencap Direct will help people with a learning disability, and their families, to find services they need for themselves and take control over their own lives."
