Mencap Christmas cards go on sale

Friday 30 September 2011

Winning designs from Mencap's Christmas card competition available at John Lewis

Christmas pudding card

This year, Mencap's Christmas card competition was organised in partnership with John Lewis. There were over 600 entries to the competition, and back in January, a judging panel chose eight winning designs.

The judges included Mencap ambassador and star of the BBC's Gavin and Stacey Mathew Horne and The X Factor runner-up and winner of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here Stacey Solomon.

The winning cards – designed by people with a learning disability – will be sold in selected John Lewis and Fenwick stores, as well as on the John Lewis website. They will go on sale tomorrow (1 October), on the website and at:

  • John Lewis flagship store, Oxford Street, London W1A 1EX
  • John Lewis, The Mall At Cribbs Causeway, Avon BS34 5QU
  • Fenwick, 63 New Bond Street, London W1A 3BS.

Mencap will receive 37p from the sale of each pack of cards.

Plus, this year, John Lewis has chosen to support Mencap, as one of its chosen charities that will benefit from the sale of all its charity Christmas cards. This means that John Lewis will donate 25% from the purchase price of its cards to Mencap, Shelter, Age UK and Childline.

The judges also picked two Christmas card entries to be turned into e-cards, which will be available for free on the Mencap website later in the year.
