A message from Mencap's chair, Jim Glover, about our chief executive

Dear all,
I am writing to share the news that Mencap’s chief executive Mark Goldring (pictured) will be leaving in April to take up the post of chief executive at Oxfam GB. This is a significant opportunity for Mark, and while we are extremely sorry that he will be leaving Mencap, he will go with our good wishes and grateful thanks for his leadership over the last four years.
Mark says: “I am very sad to be leaving Mencap. I have loved this job since the very first day I joined in 2008. During my time here I’ve been continually inspired by the people I have met and worked with. I would have left Mencap for no other job.
"The Oxfam chief executive job comes up once in a working lifetime. I am passionate about tackling poverty and exclusion around the world and it’s what I worked on for the first 30 years of my career.
"In the coming months I will continue to work closely with staff and trustees to ensure that my leaving causes minimum disruption to our work. And I want you all to know that I will always remain a friend and supporter of Mencap.”
The trustees and I warmly thank Mark for the huge contribution he has made to this organisation. He leaves Mencap in a strong position and his are big shoes to fill.
We are pleased that Jan Tregelles has agreed to act as our interim chief executive while we recruit a permanent successor. Mark and Jan will work closely with each other, the leadership team and trustees to ensure that our important work continues with the minimum of disruption.
With best wishes
Jim Glover, chair
