The Co-operative Charity of the Year

The Co-operative chose Mencap and our sister charity ENABLE Scotland as its Charity of the Year partners in 2011. The Co-operative fundraised for Mencap, with stores across the country taking part in a fun-filled programme of events which raised £7 million for Mencap.

The money raised will be used for Mencap's project Inspire Me which will help 25,000 young people with a learning disability transform their lives through a range of volunteering, employment and community involvement opportunities.

Mark Goldring, Mencap’s chief executive, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support shown by everyone at The Co-operative Group. Their fundraising efforts and generosity have made the partnership a great success. I would like to thank the staff, members and customers for helping to raise such a fantastic sum of money, which will give thousands of young people with a learning disability the chance to change their future."
