Local authorities must stop making cuts to social care services that support people with a learning disability
Mencap is fighting against the cuts and for the rights of people with a learning disability and their families to live safe, happy and independent lives.
We believe that
- local councils must look at ways to save money that don’t involve cutting frontline services
- people with a learning disability and their families must not lose access to vital support such as day services, short breaks and transport
- when a local authority cuts a service the people affected should challenge this and fight for the services they need.
Tell your local council to protect vital short breaks services for people with a learning disability and their family carers.

We have a selection of factsheets about cuts called 'Know your rights.' There are also easy read guides available.
