Simon follows a politician for a week

Author: Simon Smith

Posted: 27th Sep 2012

My name is Simon Smith and I live independently in a Mencap Cymru supported living house in Flintshire. In September 2012 I met with Aled Roberts, an Assembly Member (AM) for North Wales, to learn more about what he does.

I first spoke to Aled earlier this year at a Mencap Cymru event where I asked him if he would mind if I shadowed him for a few days in his constituency - he said that he would love to.

On the first day I attended several media interviews. We then went to visit the Yale College in Wrexham and I met the principal Jasbir Dhesi.

We had meetings at Aled’s office and on the last day we went to Anglesey where I got to meet another AM, Kirsty Williams, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats.

I really enjoyed my experience; I would recommend it to anyone who is into politics. Aled and his staff explained about what they did and were very helpful.
