First BA, now Butlins!
Posted: 8th Jul 2011
It was only last month when I became so outraged that I felt the need to Blog for the first time…… now I’m at it again!
This time it’s not BA it’s another British establishment, Butlins…. Considering these financially challenging times they apparently feel it appropriate to discriminate against a group of adults with a learning disability who want to go on holiday and have fun. Aaargh……
The group, from Sheffield, have been going away to Butlins together for a number of years and really look forward to it. It’s their highlight of the year. This year they tried to booked as usual but have been told that the group intimidates children and so they can’t go. The group has got bigger over the years and you can imagine that a large group of adults going somewhere like Butlins together might be intimidating but I bet Butlins wouldn’t be turning down a large Hen or Stag group, right?
Has anyone else experienced this kind of discrimination? How did you react? Would love to hear from you as this has really frustrated me, again.

Every year I go to Butlins at Bognor Regis with my children and every year we stay in the same accommodation.
The two chalet next to us are always on them dates occupied by adults with learning and physical disabilities.
My children every year hope that that party are going to be there as they are always so friendly , happy which turn makes my children happy.
So I was shocked to read your comment and unable to accept in this day and age that discrimination is still rife.

Discusting discrimination. Shame on Butlins, this is completely unacceptable and should be illegal! i can't believe they can do this!? did any children actually ever say such a thing? i think not! This sounds like an 'adult' made policy to me. I hope the group found somewhere more fun to go!
We've been with our learning disabled/autistic boys to many themeparks, holiday parks, holidays uk and abroad, never seen or heard such a ridiculous rule, never seen any intimidated looking children only ever noticed some seem a little shocked at behaviour, until usually parents explain some people have problems, once saw a young boy telling his friend/brother about learning disabilities, so matter of fact as if the other should've known all this! made me chuckle! luckily awareness is on the up as it's so common now, most people know someone.
